Unlock Your Potential: The 2.0 Mindset Shift for Virtual Assistants

When I started my Virtual Assistant business a little over 10 years ago, Let’s get one thing straight: being a Virtual Assistant isn’t just about the work. It’s about the freedom, the lifestyle, and the ability to design your own life.

Whether you’re just starting your Virtual Assistant business, growing and working with more clients, or are ready to scale, one thing is clear: to reach your full potential, you need to go all-in. And by "all-in," I mean following the plan—step by step, even when it gets uncomfortable.

If you’re reading this, that means you want to start or grow your VA business, and you’re ready to do whatever it takes. Keep scrolling to see what I learned about shifting my own mindset to transform my VA business into a $144,000-per-year dream job and revolutionize my life.

Why Going “All-In” Is the Key to Success

Since I started my business, I’ve learned the importance of truly committing to my goals. Sounds simple, right? But committing doesn’t just mean buying the tools or taking Virtual Assistant courses. It means showing up daily, following the exact steps, even when it’s tempting to skip some parts, and pushing through the discomfort.

The same goes for your VA business strategy. It’s not enough to simply sign up for an online Virtual Assistant course or buy a business mentorship program.

You have to actually do the work—every single step. As I reflected on my growth over the course of my VA business, I realized that the things I truly committed to were the ones that worked.

Half-Commitments Won’t Get You the Results

I’ve totally been in the one-foot-in, one-foot-out camp—buying gym memberships or business courses, fully intending to follow through. But then, life gets busy. Client work takes over. Excuses pile up, and before you know it, that gym membership gets forgotten and that program I invested in sits unopened in my email inbox.

One of the biggest turning points in my business was when I realized the shape my half-commitment was taking: I’d buy a course, skim through the first few lessons, pick and choose what I felt like implementing, and ignore the rest… And then I’d wonder why I wasn’t seeing results. (Sound familiar?)

It took a lot of frustration and disappointment (more than it should have!) to fully accept that cherry-picking strategies and only implementing parts of the plan will not get you the outcome I was dreaming of. I mean, I knew that already. But I wasn’t really internalizing it or making it part of how I ran my business. Once I did, everything changed.

Whether you're focusing on VA skills training or trying to land new clients, the magic happens when you follow the plan exactly as it’s laid out. If the program you’re following suggests a daily marketing strategy, don't skip days. If it recommends building an email list, don’t procrastinate on sending that first email. You have to go all in.

The 2.0 Version of Yourself Is Waiting

In 2023, I committed to what I call “Rebecca 2.0.” I stopped making excuses and started following through on what I said I would do—both in my personal life and in my Virtual Assistant business. That meant getting serious about my health, showing up fully engaged for my business mentorship calls, and sticking to a strict morning routine.

For example, I signed up for the 5 AM club—a morning routine where you focus on 20 minutes of movement, 20 minutes of reflection, and 20 minutes of learning. Sure, waking up at 5 AM wasn’t easy at first. But I stuck with it, and (I know it sounds totally cliché) it has been life-changing!

Other than becoming a morning person, one of the most meaningful changes I made was deciding to implement every step of the plans I invested in—whether it was a workout routine or a business growth strategy. And guess what? It totally worked. I gained more followers, landed more clients, and even spent the Canadian winter in Mexico with my husband and our dog after driving down in our converted Sprinter van, living the nomadic life I had been dreaming of for 10 years.

What’s Your 2.0?

Now, I want you to think about your own "2.0" version. What does the next level of you look like? How can you apply this same commitment to your Virtual Assistant business?

Whether you're taking online Virtual Assistant courses or working with a VA coach, the key is to actually follow through. Don’t pick and choose. Don’t let fear or discomfort stop you from fully committing to the process. Because that’s the only way you’ll see results.

Take my story as an example: When I committed to my business mentorship program and followed it step by step, I gained more than just clients. I gained confidence, clarity, and a lifestyle that suits me. This could be your reality, too, if you're willing to give your own VA business 100%.

How to Fully Commit to Your Virtual Assistant Business

If you’re reading this, you’re likely already on the path to becoming a Virtual Assistant, or maybe you're working on scaling your VA business. And here’s the tough love part: if you’re not fully committing to every single step, you’re going to struggle to see results.

To create a life of freedom and flexibility—the life you want to design—you need to commit to growth. No matter where you are in your own business plan, it’s time to go all-in.

Need some inspiration? Here are a few actionable steps to get started:

Find a program or plan: Whether it’s a Virtual Assistant certification, an online VA course, or Virtual Assistant business mentorship, find a structured path to follow.

Make a schedule: Set aside time each day to work on your business. It could be one hour of VA skills training, researching clients, or improving your services.

Track your progress: Use a journal, calendar, or app to track what you’ve accomplished. Seeing your progress will keep you motivated. (My personal favourite planner is the Passion Planner! HIGHLY recommend it.)

Stay consistent: Show up every day, even when you don’t feel like it. Success requires consistency.

Ask for help: If you hit a roadblock, don’t be afraid to ask for support from your mentor, peers, or VA community.

The Challenge: Reach Your 2.0 in the Next Year

It’s taken time—like a decade’s worth!—but I finally reached the point where I was ready to go all-in. And you know what? I’m not done yet. Every year moving forward, I’m aiming for Rebecca 3.0, 4.0, and beyond.

I want to challenge you to become your own 2.0 version. Decide that you’re going to follow the plan, take every action, and push through discomfort.

By this time next year, you could have a thriving Virtual Assistant business, more clients than you imagined, and the freedom to live life on your terms!

I dare you to take this seriously. What could your VA business look like a year from now if you went all-in? How much could you achieve if you followed the steps, asked for help when needed, and gave it your 100%?

Check out the VA Accelerator today, and let’s get you the mentorship and community you need to reach your goals.
